A Letter from Jolie & Elizabeth
It's a Friday Afternoon in late August and the feeling is back - the feeling of excitement that emanates from every person you meet. Its an energy driven by the anticipation of an entire day of friends and families, the smell of good southern food, the arrival of crisp cool weather, the beats of a marching band's drums and most importantly, the feeling of solidarity behind your team. For us personally, this feeling brings us back to a Saturday night in Death Valley and a Sunday in the Superdome. All allegiances aside, as Southerners, we all know this feeling very well. Our Jolie and Elizabeth Tailgate Collection is inspired by this vibrant energy present in the South during our infamous football season.
We carefully selected fabrications of an ideal weight, suitable for fall weather in the south - cotton, pima sateen, chiffon and silk crepe de chine, and balanced these with a transitional color palette, from an analogous color scheme of lilac, lavender, and plum purple to a secondary color scheme of crimson and white, with a touch of grey to emphasize depth. The foundation of our collection is a black, gold and camel color combination; these hues happen to be one of this fall's biggest trends and a classic color choice that can carry you from September well into the Holiday Season. Not to mention, we couldn't help but show our pride in our hometown Superbowl XLIV Champions.
A very unique source of inspiration for us this fall is the impact of the oil spill disaster on our Gulf Coast. As we watched the catastrophe unfold without the ability to help, we felt compelled to have our voice heard, in the way we know best- through our fashion and art. Our generation is one that is often overlooked. However, through our actions- no matter how big or small- we hope to change that.
Our Fall Collection has something for everyone, for fans of all ages. As always, we have two categories within our collection: Upperline and Lowerline. Our Upperline girl is sophisticated, charmingly proper, and loves a beautiful set of pearls. She remains conservative yet chic. Our Lowerline girl is fearless and free spirited; her style is understated, and she prefers a more casual, trendier look. This fall, for our Upperline girl, we offer dresses such as the Rue Royale and the Dewdrop Dress, perfect for a first date to the game or an alumni event. For the Lowerline girl, we offer the Gabriella cardi or the Thalia silk shorts to throw on effortlessly. We have a variety of bows, handbags, and (one of our personal favorites) a Who Dat Scarf, with the option of personalized embroidery a favorite southern tradition. Your style can change from day to day, or in this case from weekend to weekend...feel free to dress accordingly. We wait 8 months out of the year for football season, and it's finally upon us. We are well rested and ready for whatever the fall may bring- ready to eat amazing food, catch up with old friends, scream our lungs out, and, for a very special few of us, defend our national titles. We hope that this Jolie and Elizabeth Collection brings you the same energy and happiness that graces the South in the fall.
Jolie is French for, "pretty" and Elizabeth translates to "promise" so together, Jolie & Elizabeth means pretty promise and our promise to you is below.
All Jolie & Elizabeth dresses are made in the USA.
Not to brag, but specifically, below the Mason Dixon line.
All of our dresses are manufactured right here in the beautiful city of New Orleans, Louisiana, of which you'll find a beautiful 'Made in Louisiana' tag.
Jolie & Elizabeth prides itself in contributing to the rebuilding, revitalizing and redevelopment of the city of New Orleans, and the great state of Louisiana.
The positive economic impact of keeping dollars circulating within our local economy, utilizing untapped local labor resources to create jobs and using innovative strategies to create sustainable businesses (and pretty dresses) are our key objectives. It is up to our generation to step up as leaders and strengthen our community, to be good examples for generations to come. We are dedicated to our city as much as we are our customers and we are happy to say that is reflected in every part of our company.
Long rides in the Jeep, last minute fishing trips, crawfish boils, a porch swing and a messy Plum Street snowball. Just a few things that come to mind when we think of summertime in the South. For everyone, summer memories are different: family trips, late nights with friends or a first kiss with a new love. We wanted to make our first collection all about New Orleans in the summer.
We were inspired by none other than the basis of our line, the city we call home, New Orleans, LA. From the Spanish Moss-covered trees of Audubon Park to the red and white checkered tablecloths of Bon Ton Café and every place in between, New Orleans has a never ending abundance of history, imagination and inspiration.
Of course, every southern girl has her moments, so to compliment each: Upperline and Lowerline, the two categories of Jolie and Elizabeth. Our Upperline girl is sophisticated, charmingly proper and loves a beautiful set of pearls. She remains conservative yet chic. The Lowerline girl is fearless and free spirited; her style is understated as she tosses on a playful dress and heads to the park. Upperline consists of more luxurious fabrics, silks, crepe de chine and classic silhouettes; Lowerline is trendier in styling and more casual in fabrications
Throw on our Adelaide, Acadian or Gypsy dress for a warm afternoon in the park or a date on
Magazine Street. Wear the Charlotte or Streetcar dress to grab a drink at the Sazerac bar or dinner at Arnauds. We used a mix of seersucker, silk and chiffon fabrics to insure comfort and ease. This collection of stylish yet classic pieces exudes the natural beauty and attitude of a southern summer. It is a pleasure to share our first collection with you and we hope that Jolie & Elizabeth will be part of your best summer memory yet.

Drawing inspiration from the heart of the deep south, New Orleans; over a pitcher of sweet tea and a messy shrimp po boy, Jolie and Elizabeth was born.
Jolie & Elizabeth is comprised of two young New Orleans fashion designers, Jolie Bensen and Sarah Elizabeth Dewey.
Jolie Bensen, born and raised in New Orleans, graduated from LSU then immersed herself in the NY and LA fashion design industries, beginning as an intern with Betsey Johnson, 3 years with BCBG Max Azria and after a short stint with Alice + Olivia, eagerly returned to sweet home New Orleans to diversify her accomplishments in fashion.
As a stylist, she used her love of vintage fashions and architectural eye, inherited from her father, to the windows of Magazine Street and pages of Vogue España. As a designer, Jolie aspires to create fun, feminine yet functional dresses, a balance of sophisticated and spirited, while focusing on the importance of a good fit. Through her fascination with fashion, Jolie remains determined to take her experiences from different levels within the fashion industry and evolve them to help structure and invigorate a stronger path for the young and talented generation that will ensue.
Sales, marketing and assistant design are by Texas native, Sarah Elizabeth Dewey. Born in New Orleans, she moved to Dallas at a young age and nourished a passion for the south. After working with buyers and wholesalers at many Dallas Fashion markets, she traded in her cowboy boots for shrimp boots and headed down to Louisiana State University to obtain a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Business. With Sarah's experience in the Dallas and New York City fashion industries and her passion for sales and brand imaging, she brings customer-centric enthusiasm to Jolie and Elizabeth.
The two met in the big apple while, as fate would have it, Sarah interned for Jolie at BCBG. In due time, the two realized that the street they were searching for was not Fifth Avenue nor Rodeo Drive, but Desire.
Staying true to timeless southern style, the dresses of Jolie and Elizabeth surpass forced trends that overlook the purpose of a dress:
to adorn or decorate; to render pleasing or attractive. Trends come and go, but a true Southern girl knows good style and good attitude go hand in hand.
And there's nothing more charmingly irresistible than that.
